Welcome to The Fit Journalist! A little about me….
I’ve been a journalist for more than a decade. I started as a print reporter for about eight year before becoming a morning talk radio show host on a Fox News affiliate in southern Utah. From there I was a morning and midday news anchor in Idaho, and then an evening anchor in Iowa. Eventually I made my way to Capitol Hill working as a Communications Director for a member of Congress for two years in D.C., and now I contribute editorial pieces and freelance articles to media outlets like the Washington Examiner, Huffington Post and The Military Spouse and more. You can see my portfolio here. I now also own two businesses. My “day” job is teaching members of Congress and their communications staff PR, media and on camera training. By night, I’m a fitness coach. (I’m also an author. Follow my latest book news and mommy blog over here.)
I began my fitness journey unintentionally when I served in the military so many years ago. I have a 16-year-old and I joined before he was born so that tells ya why it feels like another lifetime to me. I was in the BEST shape of my life! Yet I was so self-conscious about my body and I hated anyone seeing me sit down, because *gasp* people have belly rolls when they sit. Fast forward nearly two decades and I had let myself get out of shape. I was always bloated, constantly looking way way prego and I had zero energy. I was moody, my husband was overseas so I was doing so much without him and I was resentful about it. One day, my teenager wanted to bulk up and asked me to work out with him. I said yes and it wasn’t long after that I discovered Beachbody!
I know that BB is NOT for everyone. My husband is so good at working out on his own and he knows exactly what to do because he’s been studying nutrition and fitness his entire career as a Marine. But then there are people like me! I have no motivation to workout on my own. I NEED accountability groups to find inspiration to stay in shape. I didn’t know how to eat or workout properly without the guidance of BB. I’ve spent the last year learning so much about nutrition and fitness that I feel completely confident using those tools (created by bada$$ people who know what they’re doing) to help YOU on your fitness journey! And I HATE going to the gym so working out from home as been huge for me. I’m also REALLY BUSY. I own a company, raise children, volunteer A LOT to speak out and prevent child sex abuse and human trafficking, write books, speak at events and I’m Mrs. Virginia. So fitting in a workout has not been easy. And that’s another reason I LOVE Beachbody. Because it works on my schedule and the workouts (most of them) can be done in 30 minutes or less.
